The DI operation for Shadowboxer was performed by Shooters Post & Transfer, Philadelphia USA, using a fairly unique HD DI workflow.
A DI workflow was not originally planned for Shadowboxer, but late in the project's time line the idea of using a DI workflow the enhance the final result was considered, and Shooters Post & Transfer approached to perform the work, although they had no previous experience with DI.
As a result, Bob Pyle, Director of Engineering for Shooters, approached Digital Praxis to assist with planning the DI workflow and ensuring a quality end result. Digital Praxis therefore became responsible for Shadowboxer's DI process, including setting up Shooter's Spirit Telecine to transfer 10bit LOG HD images to a Sony HDcam-SR vtr, with online conforming via Flame and grading via da Vinci 2K, and monitor calibration via Kodak KDM on a TCS box.
As a second unique part to the developed workflow at Shooters Post & Transfer was the fact that the consulting performed by Digital Praxis was performed totally remotely, with no visits to Philadelphia ever being undertaken. Images from the calibration process, as well as designs for the workflow infrastructure, were simply transferred via the internet, and a final workflow and closed-loop calibration set-up developed.
The results for Shadowboxer speak for the success of this approach.
